The scriptures clearly teach that just because you find yourself in trials doesn’t mean you have sinned or done anything wrong to deserve it. With that being said it should be a time to evaluate and allow the Holy Spirit to search our lives for areas that need attention.
Without going into details, last week was one of those weeks definitely worth forgetting. It started by waking up on Monday morning to a water leak under the house. Tuesday and Thursday weren’t much better. The best thing that happened is that this brought me to my knees with the plee “search me Lord and show me areas that need to be addressed”. I had some great intimant times of prayer. Some parts of my prayer times were comforting and refreshing. Others were convicting. The truth is it was just what I needed. I needed to spend time with God without an agenda. It wasn’t about praying through a list, it was just about being with Him. It was about listening. In doing so I was amazed at how the Lord worked in my heart. Did He reveal areas I needed to change? Absolutely! Did He refresh my soul? Even more so! It just reminded me how much God desires to be close to each of us, it is just too bad that sometimes it takes certain situations to get us to that point.
So, were my situations discipline from God? No, I don’t think so, but they were a great reminder that sometimes I just need to slow down and go to Him in prayer with no agenda except just being with Him. It is in those times that He can show me things that I other times don’t slow down long enough to see. Don’ t rush through life and miss the opportunity to “be” with God instead of just “doing” things for Him. There is plenty of time for doing, take the time soon and practice the being.
