Bringing Biblical Principles Home

For those of us involved with Word of Life Clubs at just about any level, we are familiar with the term “Biblical Principles.” We know, teach, and usually practice these principles in the areas of Scripture memorization, daily Quiet Time, Christian Service, church attendance, etc. But, does it end there? Do Biblical principles seep into other areas of our life? We quote 2 Timothy 3:16 and say that the Bible is profitable for “doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” We tell others that the Bible has all the answers for our daily lives, and many of us attend churches where the Statement of Faith says that the Bible is applicable to all areas of faith and practice, but….do you really believe that? Ask yourself, are you aware of and do you live by the Biblical principles that govern the following areas?

1. Your music: (Wow, Ray! Way to hit a nerve right out of the gate!) Have you ever stopped and considered what Biblical principles come into play in the music you listen to? Or, do you just stick with whatever your particular church says is “good” music? What do you believe about music? Ministry Live just posted an article that is very good in this area.

2. Your politics: (Ray! You went from bad to worse! God doesn’t care who I vote for. Anyway, as a Christian I shouldn’t be involved in politics.) Really?! Now, don’t get me wrong. I am as appalled as anyone else when someone running for office says one thing during a campaign and then does something 180 degrees differently when in office, but I still vote. And, I try to vote according to Biblical principles. Mark Twain, who I believe was one of the biggest degenerates of the 19th century, and who appears to have hated all things Christian said, “If Christians should vote their duty to God at the polls, they would carry every election, and do it with ease.”

3. Your finances: You do realize that the Bible says it is better to have no debt at all? It also says if you do go into debt, go into it carefully and pay your debts as quickly as possible. In addition, the Bible states that a person should provide for his family, and that if someone won’t work that they shouldn’t eat. Notice it says won’t, not can’t.

4. Your time: We will give an account for how we use…or waste… time.

5. Your words: This is one area in which I am continually convicted: we will give an account for “every idle word.”

Here’s my point, our Bibles do give guidance for every area of our lives. I wonder how our lives, our families, our nation would be different if just the Christians consistently lived our lives by Biblical principles.
